Dean Koontz - Frankenstein

Just got done reading the Frankenstein series by Dean Koontz.  The series is five books long, and is a re-invention of Mary Shelley's classic monster making story.  Without giving too much away...the premise of the series is that Victor Frankenstein is alive and well 200 years after the original story takes place.  Oh, and his original creation is still around too.  I like the concept, and Koontz does a good job of blending the story into modern times.  The modern day Victor is a pretty fascinating character, with some definite personality quirks.  He has done awfully well for himself, and enjoys the finer things in life.  Throughout the series we get glimpses into what Dr. Frankenstein has been up to over the last 200 years, and the historical figures he has been involved with.

The first three books are particularly good, books four and five are much less engaging.  Although I enjoyed the series very much, I do have some criticisms... There are certain "attributes" that the original Frankenstein monster has that are a little too much.  I know that we are talking about a monster created from parts of dead bodies, but I still think there are things here that go a little too far.  At times I thought that the special abilities were just put there to solve certain plot and timing issues, I could be wrong.  Anyway, my biggest disappointment was the ending.  I'm certainly not going to give it away, I just thought that it was way too easy and very anti-climactic.

Like I said, even though I had some minor issues with it, I enjoyed reading the series.  Great idea.
